If equal, if not greater importance is the fact that chlorine dioxide will not react with many organic compounds, and as a result ClO2 does not produce environmentally dangerous chlorinated organics. For example; aromatic compounds have carbon atoms arranged in rings and they may have other atoms, such as chlorine, attached to these rings, to form a chlorinated aromatic – a highly toxic compound that persists in the environment long after it is produced.
Chlorine dioxide’s behaviour as an oxidising agent is quite dissimilar. Like ozone, the predominant oxidation reaction mechanism for chlorine dioxide proceeds through a process known as free radical electrophilic (i.e. electron-attracting) abstraction rather than by oxidative substitution or addition (as in chlorinating agents such as chlorine or hypochlorite). This means that chlorinated organic compounds such as THMs and HAAs are not produced as a result of disinfection using chlorine dioxide
Although ClO2 has been used in udder disinfection for the past 15 years, it has been
used commercially for over 60 years. It is used for disinfection and odor control and has
been known for broad-spectrum killing ability.
Some examples of industrial chlorine dioxide use include:
No. While ClO2 has chlorine in its name, chlorine dioxide’s chemistry is radically different
than that of chlorine. Bleach is a hypochlorite/hypochlorus acid, which is a more
corrosive oxidizing system. Chlorine dioxide is gentler on hands and teat skin and has less tendency to become inactivated by organic matter (mud, manure, milk) than bleach.
Chlorine dioxide is residue safe, the active ingredients break down to products naturally found in the environment – organic acids and salt. It is environmentally friendly and not harsh on teat skin. In fact, all of the Topchem formulations are fast, safe and effective.
Softening is Key: The question has been posed that if chlorine dioxide “dissolves hyperkeratotic tissue, wouldn’t it also dissolve skin?”
Chlorine dioxide does not dissolve hyperkeratotic tissue. It softens it for easier removal.

Available sizes: 25 litre – 205 litre – 1000 litre
The ultimate all-in-one product for sheep and cattle foot bathing and for eliminating digital dematitis in your livestock. Foot infections will generate a lot of heat with in the foot and this enables the caking to multiply rapidly around the foot, unfortunately a lot of the products that are on the market place (e.g ) zinc, bluestone, formaldehyde etc can not penetrate through this build up resulting the foot infection spreading throughout the foot and the rest of the herd / flock. Thankfully Digi – Blends formulation will both clean the foot to enable the unique chemistry to carry out its task.
